Lover Avenged by J R Ward

i brought this book on Ebay 28th May and have put it aside until I found the time to reread the series... Seriously peeps I had to do this properly... This book has been on my want list since forever!! So... finally on Monday I finished reading Lover Unbound which, might i add, I enjoyed better on second reading. Yesterday i began the long long anticipated reading of this very long book.
Deep breath.....
This book made me cry.... lots.... omg... I'm an emotional wreck... I took it into town and sat in a cafe and found myself crying and people were staring!!!
This book is sooooooo beautiful, really beautiful.

This is Revenge's book... who i never really cared much about i mean seriously... he was coming between Butch and Marissa not to mention him being a drug lord and pimp... hard to love the guy... till now... Zsadist has always been my fave brother and John would be second but Revenge has moved to 2nd place...

"Rehvenge has always kept his distance from the Brotherhood—even though his sister is married to a member, for he harbors a deadly secret that could make him a huge liability in their war against the lessers. As plots within and outside of the Brotherhood threaten to reveal the truth about Rehvenge, he turns to the only source of light in his darkening world, Ehlena, a vampire untouched by the corruption that has its hold on him—and the only thing standing between him and eternal destruction."

There's been a lot of complaints about the fact that romance has slowly been removed from the books but I found this to be a load of crock.... there is so much love in this book....
the romance between Rehvenge and Ehlena is beautiful... a slow and warm courtship.... but its only part of it... we also revisit Beth an Wrath and see how bordom and illness affect them. the love scenes between them make me want to cry again...
For a very long book it really did keep me glued to the pages... i found it hard pressed to leave alone... I love the way J R Ward weaves diferent threads of the story throughout the book which come together at the end... its sincerely clever...
this book is so beautiful; death, illness, war, deception, love, brothers oh hell i'm weaping again.
This was sooo sooo soo good.... my only problem is that i fell out of love with john.... he's so harsh and cold... it really bothered me... cause John has been the one i've been following throughout... just waiting for him to realise his past life... to realise beth is his daughter... and it seems that whole storyline has got lost.... sad huh...
but the thing is things arent always as they seem in these books.... everythings needs a second look.... so I guess i'll have to reread it.... with hankies this time...
I'll have to reread it a lot... cause the next black dagger book... brace yourself...
isnt out till......

April 2010 NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!
and its Johns story!!!!!

My God its torture....
How will I get by?

DARK LOVER by J R Ward

Part one of the Black dagger brotherhood

"In the shadows of the night in Caldwell, New York, there's a deadly turf war going on between vampires and their slayers. There exists a secret band of brothers like no other-six vampire warriors, defenders of their race. Yet none of them relishes killing more than Wrath, the blind leader of the Black Dagger Brotherhood. The only purebred vampire left on earth, Wrath has a score to settle with the slayers who murdered his parents centuries ago. But, when one of his most trusted fighters is killed - leaving his half-breed daughter unaware of his existence or her fate - Wrath must usher her into the world of the undead - a world beyond her wildest dreams"
This book is really long, and for a long book to keep me interested - well it has to be really good.. and it is!
Fast paced, dark, erotic and realistic - realistic.... You could almost believe it was all real... Probably helped along by the references to modern rap artists... you could picture the brotherhood hanging out just like any other gang u see on tele...
I was impressed with the character development - both Beth and Wrath were not entirely likable in the beginning both seemed unaproachable and i admit i did wonder if i could see a romance... but... wow towards the end you start to see what they both have tried to hide... They are both vulnerable. I particularly liked Butch, the hard assed cop. He grew on me - and yes hes no vampire, but there sure is potential.
Favourite part was Wrath and Beths bonding ceremony - it truly was err really good to read... and wow... it blew me away.
I cant wait to read Marissa's and Butch's story... but thats books ahead.... but I'll get there soon enough

DRAGONSWAN and THE BEGINNING by Sherrilyn Kenyon

Two books, both relatively short.
The Beginning is very short and is available on Sherrilyn's Website. This is an introduction to the dark hunter series, and how the Dark Hunters came to be...
It actually confused me completely... not sure i quite understand but maybe i will in time..???
Basically Acheron is sent for by Artemis, a Goddess/Daemon, also I'm guessing his ex or wannabe lover... but Acheron is angry at her for causing his death?
Artemis asks him to train her Dark hunters and because he wants no one to suffer as he has, he goes to her...
I won't tell u any more... just check out her site... either way its left me very CONFUSED!
Anyway it wasn't very long, roughly 10 min read... so its probably not worth mentioning - but i will....

Anyway onto Dragonswan Sebastion and channon's story. Sebastion is a were-dragon, a lonely were-dragon. Cast off from his kind forced to slay his enemies alone. He has travelled from his Saxon home into the present to steal a tapestry so he can save his brother, as he checks the museum out he meets Channon whom he feels an all consuming desire for. After an extremely hot liason he creeps out of her room only to realise she is his lifemate.... If he does not claim her he will never find another lifemate and so he decides to take her to his home back in time.

As I said this is a short book, but a very hot book... yummy yummy... Sherrilyn has created yet another scrummy lead character after my own heart "swoon!"
and Channon is an interesting character... however I feel this book was perhaps too short... there was a lot of missed opportunity... it feels like its missing something.. it just seems all too easy and quick... Still its worth a read.... It will keep you warm, I promise u!

FANTASY LOVER by Sherrilyn Kenyon

Part one of the Dark Hunter series...

Official description: "Twenty-nine year-old sex therapist Grace Alexander has been celibate for four years after experiencing a horrendous relationship with a self-centered, cruel former lover. Grace's flamboyant, exotic friend Selena decides it's time to get Grace back in the swing of things and she has just the solution -- an ancient tome holding a magnificent male specimen cursed to live between the pages of the book for eternity -- until he's called forth with a magic spell to serve as a love slave to his summoner for a period of one month. Having experienced Selena's so-called magic spells before, Grace isn't worried that the gorgeous guy in the picture is going to magically appear. Surprise, surprise, and happy birthday to Grace!
Julian of Macedon, half God, half mortal, is so exceptionally good looking that he made women fall at his feet and men green with envy and jealousy, in his time -- 149 BC. Jealousy and atonement for his sins, is what finds Julian cursed and trapped between the pages of a book only free for one month at a time, if he's lucky. Sometimes that freedom only comes once every one hundred years. When Grace summons him from the book, Julian is resigned and ready to fulfill her every sexual dream and fantasy. Grace, however, has other ideas for Julian. When she discovers just what a heartbreaking, loveless and dark life he's lived, Grace decides to show Julian just what friendship and love mean."

I have a few things to get off my mind before i continue.... OOOOhh baby yeah....
and also
"Come and ease my aching loins,
O great Julian of Macedon, Julian of Macedon, Julian of Macedon."
Damn it didnt work!

Oh well will have to dream instead...

Anyways... this book, phew, its a hottie... not in an elloras cave erotic kind of way... just a kind of what a man kind of way.... phew hell, Julian could warm my bed any day ;-)
This book was a dream to read, it reads really well in a language that i understand.... Grace, the heroine, is someone i would love to have as a friend, a sassy, intelligent woman whos been hurt in the past... but a woman whos heart is big enough to see the hurt in the sexy Julian... hell if I'd found Julian I couldnt have kept him out of bed...
and then theres Julian, a man out for your own heart - also bed... sexy as sin but vulnerable... and its so sweet how Grace never gave up on him.. and with her strength he gradually began to heal.... ahh its so good...

I can't wait for the next book, which i have ready and waiting for me to read... but i think right now i'm gonna try one more time :
"Come and ease my aching loins,
O great Julian of Macedon, Julian of Macedon, Julian of Macedon."

Dammit... good try though ;-)

VIRTUAL DESIRE by Ann Lawrence

sequal to Virtual Heaven, this book tells the story of Vad and Maggie's friend Gwen.
Official description "Gwen Marlowe is stunned when she discovers that the handsome hero from her virtual reality game is a real-life warrior from a distant planet, who sweeps her into a strange new world in which their love must transcend the distance of the universe."
I feel Vad was missing something in this book. In the first book he came across warm and with a sense of humour, in the book he's a lot like Kered.
Its an okay book, I found it a bit longwinded and i was disapointed not to see more of Maggie and Kered. It did explain more about the virtual world, more about how people travelled there but I feel let down by it.
Maybe this is a case where the first book overshadows the second. Still there are some good moments, and its still worth reading

THE SCOTTISH ROSE by Jill Jones

This book gives you an insight into some of the events in Scotlands history and also into the life of Mary queen of Scots... and despite its heavy content is really enjoyable. This book had a lot going on; a mysterious legacy, a lawyer faced with temptation, 2 people unwilling to open themselves to hurt and a siege on a castle - plus time travel.

"Taking her crew from New York to Scotland, Taylor uses the opportunity to ! check out an inheritance from a relative of whose existence she hadn't known. Handed down through the ladies of the family, there is a diary and letters detailing Mary's chalice, The Scottish Rose, as well as its hiding place during the Cromwell era.
Duncan Fraser is a widower who has turned into himself after the deaths of his two young sons. Such fulfillment as his life has now, is as the chief of the coastal rescue mission. Although in his opinion he has rescued entirely too many fool-hardy wanderers from the rough North Sea around the Ladysgate, he can't imagine quite why he is so concerned about someone who hasn't even asked for his help. Instinctively, he senses her plea for help over time and distance, and plunges into the past after her. Together, they, along with the deaf-mute boy, Pauley, contrive to become a part of history without distorting it.
"

TWILIGHT by Stephanie Meyers COMPLETE

Thats it I finished the book and it was so good... much better than the film... the film omits so many scenes which i feel enrich the story. Dashed out to the shops to buy the sequel... I want to see if Edward transforms Bella into a vampire... I just googled the question and saw other people asking the same question... but i dont really want to know now... I'd like to read the books instead and discover it myself... but hell its fustrating cause i want Bella to spend eternity with edward... please!!!

TWILIGHT by Stephanie Meyers movie

Page 354.

Okay, i have a confession - I went to see Twilight in the cinema and at this point I'm not sure if that was a good idea, or a bad one considering i havent finished reading it yet.

I actually didnt really want to see it, just as i never really wanted to read the book, still there was nothing else on i wanted to see... and so i went....

The result... I came home and continued reading some more and additionally I have joined the millions of girls lusting after Edward Cullen how mad is that?

The movie is seriously beautiful... i was crying cause it was so moving... seeing the romance blossom between Edward and Bella... the film was shot with a lot of thought and sensitivity.... Every scene was brimming with tension and i was so gutted that i had to leave the film for ten minutes so i could go to the loo (Damn these large drinks)

I'm not a film buff but I so need that film on DVD.

The film doesnt follow the book completely, a lot of the book stuff has been omitted, and a few items added in that werent in a book... and yet the important stuff between Edward and Bella remains....

I was also pleased to see that the film didnt have a teenage movie glitter on it... no perfect make up, no perfect people, no perfect sets... everything looked so average, pale, normal... even the school reminded me of my own...

The film is worth seeing, it certainly fired up my need to read the book and the rest of the books...

VIRTUAL HEAVEN by Ann Lawrence

Description "Too bad the hunky warrior in the leather jerkin was just an image on a poster advertising a virtual reality game. But then, the game took on a life of its own and Maggie found herself face-to-face with her perfect hero. Now it would be up to her to save his life when danger threatened, to gentle his warrior's heart and to forge a new reality they both could share."

Hunky warror, Kered certainly is hunky... i found myself lusting after him for most of the book. Alpha hero... but the type who still seems like a child at times stubborn and seemingly unaware...
my absolute favourite!
I dont like perfect.... so Kered floats my boat lol!

Anyway moving away from my mancraze... the book... its quite long... well it seemed that way to me.. but still i enjoyed it. It was funny at times with enough twist and turns to keep you hooked in...a lot of adventure... it being a fantasy more than anything.
I liked the idea of being swept up into a video game... I went into a gamestore today and found myself looking at game covers thinking - if only!!! (Yep seriously i have lost the plot - kill me now!)
the ending was the only thing i had a problem with - i wanted more... it left me wondering how Maggie and Kered coped in the real world.. I mean its all very well falling for a warrior in another realm, so to speak, but the real world is diferent - people are diferent... but then maybe i think too much.

Am now reading the second book, Virtual Desire, Vad's story and im hoping i'll get my answers in this story.

Just an additional note - look at the names of people and places in the virtual world... I only just noticed them in the second book.... made me think Arthur....
Happy reading

ONCE IN EVERY LIFE by Kristin Hannah

Official description "Tess Gregory's death brings her reincarnation as wife to Civil War veteran Jack Rafferty. Jack, victim to post-traumatic shock from bloody death of brother, thinks he is insane. 1873 San Juan Island, Washington state is far cry from 1993 for Tess to begin life anew with husband, family and farm."
this is a book you can easily lose a few hours in its sweet, non demanding and very ... relaxing i guess. .
Jack and his family is the main attraction... Jack wrapped up in his ptsd loving his children but scared to be a father to them, beaten by his wife, throughout the book all i wanted to do was give him a cuddle... oh and the kids.... Savanna a child forced to act the mother to her baby sister cause their mother was too selfish and nasty and then there was katie a child full of uncertainty... Your so glad that Tess has come into their lives and yet it takes a while for them to accept that Tess is nice..
See a real feel good novel you just want everyone to be happy....
you know for some reason whilst reading this book 'little house on the prairie' came to mind....
Only little nag is the subtle religious notes in the story... but i say subtle... its not in your face, still its there and im not into religion in a big way so i just find it annoying...

Still if your looking for some sachrin sweet romance full of hope and rainbows then read this...

GUILTY PLEASURES by Laura Lee Guhrke

Part 1 of the seductions series.
Regency Romances never appealed to me, in the past i've tried to read Jane Austen and have been unable to lose myself in it, although i do love seeing it played out on the screen (Colin Firth coming out of the water all wet and.....) Hence I usually avoid regency romances like the plague.... however since I started reading more timetravel romances, I suddenly find myself liking the regency alpha male.... I'm an alpha male girl after all... tough strong and not afraid to tell you whats what ... yes maybe regency is worth a look... and phew was it worth a look!

Guilty pleasures official description "For prim and shy Daphne Wade, the sweetest guiltypleasure of all is secretly watching her employer, the Duke of Tremore, as he works the excavation site on his English estate. Anthony hired Daphne to restore the priceless treasures he has been digging up, but it's hard for a woman to keep her mind on her work when her devastatingly handsome employer keeps taking his shirt off. He doesn't know she's alive, but who could blame her for falling hopelessly in love with him anyway?
Anthony thinks that his capable employee knows all there is to know about antiquities, but when his sister decides to turn the plain young woman in gold-rimmed glasses into an enticing beauty, he declares the task to be impossible. Daphne is devastated when she overhears ... and determined to prove him wrong. Now a vibrant and delectable Daphne has emerged from her shell, and the tables are turned. Will Anthony see that the woman of his dreams has been right there all along?"

I loved this book - every single page just held me captivated... and thats not an easy feat... Both lead characters were likable - he in EVERY sense of the word --- as Daphne spies on him digging with no shirt on made me want to reach for diet coke an yell 'diet coke break' at the top of my voice.... hell this is one hot book.... first you start with her lusting after him, and he barely noticing her and then its tossed on its head as he slowly starts to lust after her... I was burning for them both... and phew the love scenes hell.... I've read some pretty hot stuff... but WOW!!!! and it wasnt romantica... it was just all that tension finally released and i swear i was so excited at that point I nearly blew a gasket! :-)

Ok so the sex is hot.... as it should be... but we are reading romantic fiction... it all as a reason... did I feel the love??? Oh baby yeah....
I so fell in love with Anthony... I could see why she could love him... could see them getting closer emotionally despite his protests... It takes him ages to realise, even as he goes out of his way to pursue her hand in marriage which he does with such tenderness and such romance, he is still unaware what, I, the reader could see that he does love her with all his heart... makes you want to cry....

The end, which i wont reveal... is a little like a certain part in Bridget Jones Diary 2 ....
Its all good...

Anyway much gushing aside... this book is fantastic!!! Read it peeps!

AN UNBELIEVABLE JOURNEY by Lauri Robinson

This book I read last night. I'm not a heavy sleeper, and being aware i had to sleep sometime last night I chose a short book. I've been unable to concentrate on any other book since i started reading twilight, so i chose this book cause it doesnt require thought - and i wouldnt recommend u try engaging your brain whilst reading this... definitly brain not required book.
official description "Sierra Masters isn’t shocked by being transported 125 years into the past- it simply proves aliens do exist. What shocks her is how easily she adjusts to living in 1883, and how quickly she falls in love with the handsome hunk Jesse Jones. Par for her life; she finally finds the man of her dreams, but will lose him in thirty days when the aliens return for her.
Jesse Jones is shocked by the girl he finds on the Nebraska prairie, she wears jewelry in her belly button, tries to shave her legs with his straight-edged razor, and insists an alien gang abducted her. He plans to wash his hands of her until a Shaman claims Sierra Masters is Jesse's woman from the future. Then, as she wiggles her way into his heart, he vows to find a way to make her stay in his time. "

Ok this book is only 81 pages and its a sensual romance (hence not in your face)
You can't expect a lot in 81 pages and u dont get a lot... but it tided me over for like an hour I guess... I liked the idea... modern girl transported to the west in 1800s nice idea... and it started ok... but theres just too many gaps... I never really got to know the heroine, nor the hero all u know is she's been sacked, her fiance dumped her (I think), no family and now she's house sitting. Is she a good person, is she a murderer... u just dont know...
She's lumbered with a cat, who she doesnt like, that runs off and as she leaps to catch it she, and the cat, fall off a cliff and land in 1880s. The big problem is the alien thing - she jumps to the conclusion that aliens have dumped her in the past and somehow she convinces herself shes only there for 30 days... 'Oh dear I'm transported through time - ahh must be the aliens they'll come back for me in I guess 30 days'
WHAT!?
I dont think so...believe me there is no alien hint outside of what she thinks.... maybe if she'd been a nerd, or had experience of alien abductions I could believe that... but... no... didnt know the character that well.
and then we have this bloke Jesse who gives her houseroom even though he doesnt know her... and in the 1880s!! Surely it didnt look good that a single man shares his house with a single unmarried female - but then maybe im wrong?
The Indian thing was the most annoying thing - obviously put there to explain EVERYTHING - should it come this easy?
He tells Jesse Sierra was sent through time to be his woman... and Jesse accepts it and within weeks they're married - its just way too easy!!
Hes been to war, surely he'll be scarred by it... and men an women were not equall at the time and yet he lets her walk all over him!?
Now I sit here the story does sound pants - and it does get worse... there are so many holes in this story - if any other person had started reading it they would have stopped within a few pages....
Me, I can read anything... and as i explained earlier- my brain wasnt fully functional at the time so I wasn't thinking clearly and at the time I enjoyed it for what it was; a very short soppy story and it helped me escape for a little while and as the ebook only cost $3 I suppose it was worth the money... I suppose...

TWILIGHT by Stephanie Meyers

Current bookmark at beginning of chapter 14
I actually started reading this on Monday. I brought it in a charity shop for 1.99 (bargain!) and its a book I actually wasn't in a hurry to read but a couple of people have sung its praises hence me picking it up.
I'd like to point out this book is my 'read at work book.' I always keep one book to read on my lunch breaks, a book I don't mind putting down to return to work once my lunch is up; this one I do mind!
I love this book and I didn't expect to. The lead character Isabella (Bella) is great - she's not perfect, perky or insanely sweet; she's a normal angsty hormonal teenage and she reminds me of my teenage self. I warm to her quickly and really want her to have a happy ending. Every page of this book is seeping with sexual tension it just pulls you in and makes you want to scream KISS HIM!! please!!!
Edward - the angsty vampire her love interest, i could love him myself... which is very important when reading soppy books. He's sensitive and caring but theres a darkness in him (which i guess is the vampire in him) and its there from the very beginning. I think the writer has done a real good job in keeping that darkness in veiw, no matter what the situation, the darkness seems to hover over the page waiting... and you know something bad wants to make an appearance and the waiting is painful!
As I say this book is fustrating reading - but its great!
Usually I read several books at the same time - but this one I dont want to put down....
But I have now, I will not read it again until tomorrow - and I'll keep telling myself that.

So far though I have to say a big thumbs up to Steph :-)
